Honors Experience #3 LeaderShape Institute 2017

In December of 2017 I had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the LeaderShape Institute Inc. This was a week long intensive workshop that allowed me to work with about 50 other incredibly intelligent University of Cincinnati Honors Program students. Each day we were guided by two Institute leaders as a group to learn more about the ways that leaders establish themselves by working according to their values and relationships with others. Then we would break off and work with our small group, which was lovingly referred to as our “family cluster.” Inside the family cluster we were able to reveal more about ourselves, our goals, and values, while learning how to work cohesively as a group.  I valued this honors experience so very much. While learning what it meant to be a leader, I grew emotionally and learned how to be confident in my own values. My experience at LeaderShape changed my own definition of what it means to be a leader. I now know that a leader is someone who is vulnerable, and engaging in their relationships with others. Leaders know how to trust their teams around them and to act with integrity in order to make their visions of the world into attainable goals. Had I not participated in LeaderShape I do not think I would have the confidence or knowledge to become an effective leader.
